La investigaci\u00f3n, desarrollada en colaboraci\u00f3n entre la Universidad Regional Amaz\u00f3nica Ikiam, la University of Reading (Reino Unido), la Technical University of Denmark y el Instituto Clodomiro Picado (Costa Rica), demuestra que la tecnolog\u00eda utilizada en las vacunas contra la COVID-19 podr\u00eda aplicarse como un potencial tratamiento ante el da\u00f1o local producido por toxinas de acci\u00f3n prolongada de venenos altamente t\u00f3xicos.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio, en el que participa el docente investigador\u00a0<strong>Dr. Jos\u00e9 Rafael de Almeida<\/strong>\u00a0como primer autor, evalu\u00f3 el uso de anticuerpos generados mediante la administraci\u00f3n de mRNA encapsulado en nanopart\u00edculas lip\u00eddicas (mRNA-LNP). Estos anticuerpos mostraron una notable capacidad para neutralizar el da\u00f1o tisular provocado por\u00a0<em>Bothrops asper<\/em>, una serpiente de gran relevancia m\u00e9dica en Am\u00e9rica Central, Am\u00e9rica del Sur y particularmente en Ecuador.<\/p>\n<p>Actualmente, los antivenenos tradicionales act\u00faan de forma efectiva en la neutralizaci\u00f3n de toxinas en el torrente sangu\u00edneo, pero no logran evitar las lesiones locales, como la destrucci\u00f3n de m\u00fasculo, que pueden llevar a discapacidades permanentes, incluida la p\u00e9rdida de extremidades. El nuevo enfoque basado en mRNA permite que las c\u00e9lulas musculares produzcan anticuerpos directamente en el sitio de la mordedura, reduciendo de manera significativa la degeneraci\u00f3n tisular.<\/p>\n<p>El\u00a0<strong>Dr. Rafael de Almeida<\/strong>\u00a0destaca la importancia regional del hallazgo:<br \/>\u00a0<em>\u201cEste estudio es especialmente importante para pa\u00edses como Ecuador y la Amazon\u00eda porque propone una soluci\u00f3n a una de las mayores limitaciones del antiveneno tradicional: su incapacidad para evitar el da\u00f1o local que causa discapacidad permanente. Al demostrar que anticuerpos producidos mediante tecnolog\u00eda de mRNA pueden neutralizar toxinas que destruyen, ofrece una alternativa capaz de actuar directamente en el sitio de la mordedura. Esto podr\u00eda transformar el manejo cl\u00ednico y mejorar significativamente los resultados para los pacientes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Los experimentos en c\u00e9lulas musculares humanas y en modelos murinos confirmaron que una sola dosis de mRNA-LNP puede generar anticuerpos en un plazo de 12 a 48 horas, disminuyendo biomarcadores de da\u00f1o muscular y preservando la estructura tisular. Los resultados sugieren que esta estrategia podr\u00eda complementar a los antivenenos convencionales, ampliando su efectividad y reduciendo el impacto de los envenenamientos.<\/p>\n<p>Si bien a\u00fan existen desaf\u00edos, como ampliar la neutralizaci\u00f3n a m\u00faltiples toxinas y resolver problemas de almacenamiento en zonas rurales, este estudio constituye una demostraci\u00f3n de concepto que abre nuevas l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n para el desarrollo de terapias m\u00e1s eficaces para regiones donde la incidencia de mordeduras de serpientes es alta.<\/p>\n<p>El
